DID YOU INCREASE RAM MEMORY
Now Speed up Windows XP w/this tweek
System
Cache Boost
Changing the value of the key LargeSystemCache from 0 to
1 will tell Windows XP to allocate
All but 4MB of system memory to the file system cache,
basically meaning that the XP Kernel can run in memory,
greatly improving its speed.
The 4MB of memory left is used for disk caching, but if
for any reason more is needed, XP allocates more.
Generally, this tweak improves performance by a fair bit
but can, in some intensive applications, degrade
performance.
As with the above tweak, you should have at least 256MB
of RAM before attempting to enable LargeSystemCache.
jt did not use this - this is supposed to be for servers.
Processor Cache Setting
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->System->CurrentControlSet->Session
Manager->Memory Management. In there find
SecondLevelDataCache.
There enter the size of your cache in decimals. So if you
have a Athlon because the size of L2 cache is 256KB,
enter 256.
For a Duron, enter 64 for 64KB.
jt has PENTIUM w/512 MB cache...so I used 512.
Disable Paging Executive
In normal usage, XP pages sections from RAM memory to the
hard drive.
We can stop this happening and keep the data in RAM,
resulting in improved performance.
Note that only users with a large amount of RAM (256MB+)
should use this setting.
The setting we want to change to disable the Paging
Executive, as it is called, is called
DisablePagingExecutive.
Changing the value of this key from 0 to 1 will
de-activate memory paging.
jt set this from 0 to 1

WinXP
Slow shutdowns?
Need To Speed Things Up
(After running SPYBOT & AVG first)
MAJOR HINTS and
Speedups
Partition Settings, etc.
It's not only start-up that you'd like to
speed up; you can also make sure that your system shuts
down faster.
If shutting down XP takes what seems to be
an inordinate amount of time, here are a couple of steps
you can take to speed up the shutdown process:
Don't have XP clear your paging
file at shutdown. For security reasons, you can
have XP clear your paging file (pagefile.sys) of
its contents whenever you shut down.
Your paging
file is used to store temporary files and data,
but when your system shuts down, information
stays in the file.
Some people prefer to have the
paging file cleared at shutdown because sensitive
information such as
unencrypted passwords
sometimes ends up in the file.
However, clearing
the paging file can slow shutdown times
significantly, so if extreme security isn't a
high priority, you might not want to clear it.
To
shut down XP without clearing your paging file,
run the Registry Editor (click Start >
Run, then type regedit in the Run box)
and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session
Manager\Memory Management
-
Change the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0.
Close the Registry, and restart your computer.
Whenever you turn off XP from now on, the paging
file won't be cleared, and you should be able to
shut down more quickly.
Note: Please be careful when editing the
Registry; you can do a lot of damage here.
Don't
change or delete anything unless you know exactly
what it is.

OUTLOOK
& OUTLOOK EXPRESS
Significant delay from when the letters are typed to when
they appear on the screen
IE with Outlook - When typing a new email in Outlook, or
replying to an email,
in html format there is a significant delay from when the
letters are typed to when they appear on the screen
This problem is caused by a "protective"
protocol that I do not support or recommend, that is,
loading down the registry
by adding a slew of sites to IE's Restricted Sites zone -
sometimes tens of thousands of URLs.
Products that "protect" you by loading down the
registry in such a way include Spybot, IE-Spyad and
Spyware Blaster.
IE7 has made changes to the way that the rendering engine
interacts with the Restricted Sites zone -
the end result is that if you are using Outlook (not
2007), have IE7 installed and use HTML as your email
format,
then when you type an email the IE rendering engine will
check the registry for entries in
IE's Restricted Sites zone **every time you type a
character***.
FIXES:
Remove all of those entries in the Restricted Sites Zone
-
use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings Tool
(Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab)
- or -
Stop using HTML (switch to Rich Text instead)
- or -
Use Word as Outlook's email editor.
***DO NOT*** set Outlook to run in the Internet Zone.
Manage large entries in RESTRICTED SITES with
To manage large amount of entries I use:

windows media player 10 or 11 stays

The bad files will be in this directory:

and/or
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR COMPUTER USER NAME\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media\11.0
You will see the bogus file perhaps like this:
WMSDKNSD.XML.(2005.08.09
21.47.18)
THE FILE NAME NUMBERS
ARE ACTUALLY THE DATE & TIME INFECTED
And you will have other valid files that will be

WinSock XP Fix 1.2
WinSock XP Fix offers a last resort if
your Internet
connectivity has been corrupted
due to invalid or removed registry entries.
It can often cure the problem of lost connections after
the removal of Adware components or
improper uninstall of firewall applications or other
tools that modify the XP network and Winsock settings.
If you encounter connection problems after removing
network related software,
Adware or after registry clean-up; and all other ways
fail, then give WinSock XP Fix a try.
It can create a registry backup of your current settings,
so it is fairly safe to use.
